Protective Device Coordination Studies

The coordination study provides the necessary calculations and logic decisions required to select or to check the selection of phase and ground overcurrent relay, directional relay, reverse power relay characteristics, and any other relays functions characteristics used in the system or recommended to be used in the system, together with the ratios of the associated instrument transformers. It is also used to check the selection of the power fuse ratings. When the study is extended into the LV downstream equipment, the study also provides the selection and the settings of the LV breakers and fuses.

The objective of the study is two folds. The first is to provide the optimum protective and coordination performances from the above devices time current characteristics curves.

The second is ensure that the study resultant settings of the protective devices, do not violate the NEC requirements for conductors, transformers, motors and any electrical equipment and under any conditions (normal or hazard) covered by the code for any voltage low or high.
The SC study is a pr-requisite to the protective device Coordination Study
