Harmonic Analysis

Harmonics in the electrical power systems are voltages and /or currents present at somemultiple of the 60Hz (fundamental) power frequency. The main sources of harmonics in power systems are static power converters that are used as power supplies for the adjustable speed drives (both AC and DC), rectifiers, UPS systems and any non linear connected load on the power system such as lamp ballasts.

The application of such devices results in harmonic currents and voltages in the A.C. supply system. The magnitude of the harmonic currents for the rectifier section of static power converters, UPS and rectifier, are a function of the number of rectifier phases as well as the AC supply system reactance.
